Become a Tutor

Can you help a child engage with learning and fulfil their potential? Can you develop their communication skills, build their confidence and support them in overcoming adversity?

At the VTO we will support you in providing one-to-one tuition either at the child’s home or in a homework group. We will train you, match you with a young person and provide resources, so that you can support them in achieving their potential.

Feedback on our services has shown that one-to-one tuition can markedly improve children’s academic performance, develop their social skills, increase their motivation to do well and grow their self-esteem. The VTO is inclusive and supports children of all ability levels… and from all of Glasgow’s communities.

We have a waiting list of children who would like to get help with their learning, so if you have an hour a week to make a positive impact on a child’s life, become a tutor with the VTO! If you want to find out more, check the Information for Prospective Tutors and the FAQ pages. Or, if you would like to speak to a member of the team use the form below to email us. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Other Volunteering Opportunities

Want to get involved with the VTO but don’t think tutoring is for you? Help us in the office or become a management board member.

The VTO welcomes applications for Volunteer Support staff. Help us run our operation smoothly! Help us prepare materials for homework groups, liaise with schools, parents and tutors and develop our marketing and recruitment campaigns. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If you would like to help us develop the organisation further, why not join the management board – we are looking for people from all walks of life who feel passionately that every child deserves the best education. We have several specialised committees – do you have the skills to help?
