Benefits of being a tutor

Being a tutor is a rewarding experience. You will make a difference to the education of the child you are tutoring. Most children being tutored need help with basic reading, writing and numeracy. Some need support for specialist subjects. The children range in age from 6 to 16 years, the majority are between 10 and 14.

Before you can start tutoring you will receive induction training which includes lesson planning and child protection. You will be encouraged to take part in additional training in areas such as dyslexia awareness, learning and communication and English as an Additional Language (EAL).

VTO also provides ongoing support, training and tutoring resources once you start tutoring. Our staff are available for answering any questions which arise. You will also benefit from the experience of other tutors: you will be assigned a mentor if you wish, and are invited to join in ongoing training sessions and occasional social events, where you will meet other tutors.
